ETI has provided its Essentials courses on business and rights for over a decade. These foundational programs are designed to equip newcomers with knowledge from experts, offer networking opportunities among professionals who work in the same field, and share practical solutions.
Inherently , our esteemed delivery partner, recently spoke with Ciara Barry of Fashion Revolution and one of the Essentials course trners, Laura Falk. They shared their insights about how participating in the program influenced their careers.
Ciara Barry joined the ETI Essentials trning back in 2018 while working as an Ethical Trade Assistant. She sd that despite her passion for rights, she was relatively new to understanding business and rights dynamics. The Essentials course proved instrumental by providing her with practical examples on rights issues within supply chns, helping her compreh root causes of problems and grasp key concepts.
Through the program, Ciara had the chance to learn from a diverse group of professionals working in various sectors alongside representatives from non-profit organizations. This experience allowed her to share and gn knowledge about real-life experiences and case studies that were particularly impactful.
Years later, we caught up with Ciara who now works as an activist for fashion reform and academia, including business and rights work with the United Nations and teaching at London College of Fashion. She emphasized how the Essentials trning was a pivotal step in her professional development journey. She highly recomms this course to anyone engaged in business and rights due to its ability to build skills needed to tackle rights challenges effectively.
Laura Falk, one of the Essential trners, shared her journey leading up to delivering these courses. Having started her career with Comic Relief, she later worked for NGOs in Tanzania and Frtrade Foundation before heading Sustnable Sourcing at UK-based supermarket chn Snsbury's for over a decade. This experience fueled her passion for building sustnability capabilities within supply chns.
Laura highlighted that the Essentials course offers a foundation by helping participants understand rights origins and business evolution, recognize how they apply to their organizations and roles. Through discussions on legislation, frameworks guiding these practices, and practical examples of issues in supply chns, she has seen significant engagement from attees.
The Essentials trning acts as an essential starting point for professionals moving into the field of rights and sustnability, providing them with a roadmap to make immediate impact despite initial confusion about where to begin. Participants can also benefit from using ETI member case studies and resources that add depth to the trning.
In , whether atting all four modules or just one session, the Essentials day-long workshops are an opportunity for knowledge development, skill enhancement, and networking among ETI members and non-members alike.
