Hospital price transparency empowers Americans to understand the cost of medical items and services before they receive them. Beginning January 1, 2021, every hospital operating in the United States must make clear and accessible information about their offerings avlable online through two channels:

Accessible Shoppable Services Display: A consumer-frily way to view prices for commonly requested medical treatments and procedures.
This initiative facilitate shopping and price comparison among hospitals, enabling patients to estimate the cost of care before they visit.
CMS audits selected hospitals and investigates complnts filed with CMS. Non-compliance may lead to civil monetary penalties.
